All youth aged 10 and up are welcome to participate in our educational, social, and service activities. Membership is encouraged, but not required. Our JB activities are designed to be inclusive and engaging for everyone.
Those interested in leadership roles can join our JB Board or Leadership Development Board.
For older youth, aged 18-25, involvement shifts from being activity participants to taking on advisory or supervisory roles, helping to guide and support the JB Board. Additionally, our JB Liaison, who works closely with the Junior Board and also sits on CISV Fredericton's Adult Board, can be a member under 25.
We host activities for ages 10 & up monthly from September through June and hold a 1 - 2 night minicamp in the spring and fall.
Our activities are a mix of:
Educational Activities: fun hands-on learning activities focused on these four key areas:
Human Rights
Diversity
Conflict and Resolution
Sustainable Development
Social activities just for fun.
Service type Activities to give back to the community.
What is a Minicamp?
“Minicamp” is a “miniature” CISV camp experience, like a shorter version of our international programs but closer to home. Typically held over a three day period, Minicamp is open to current chapter members and those interested in CISV. Minicamp activities are designed and lead by the members of our JB Board providing an opportunity for the older youth participants to develop their leadership skills. Our LDB members assist by planing and leading an activity as well.
Why Minicamps?
Minicamp is a perfect opportunity for youth who may not have an opportunity or desire to participate in a travel program to gain exposure to CISV values and skill building activities in a local setting. Minicamps are also a great way to prepare children and potential leaders for an international CISV experience.
Minicamps follow program safety and staffing guidelines similar to all CISV programs. Adult CISV members staff and chaperone the camp, as well as provide meals for campers. (Minicamps can be held at the local, regional, or national level - CISV Canada hosts a week-long National Camp each summer.)
Who is the ideal Mini Camp participant?
An ideal Mini Camp participant is a youth who is cooperative in a group setting, interested in others, able to listen and share ideas, willing to participate in games and activities, and interested in CISV values and program activities.
The JB Board organizes and leads our monthly activities and our mini-camps (with the help of adult advisors). JB Board members are elected in the Spring & Fall. JB Board meetings are typically bi-weekly and are generally more business oriented: preparing and planning activities and events, but the board shares a close bond and also does fun activities as a small group. Members are typically high school-aged, but all are welcome.
A subgroup of the CISV Fredericton's JB Board, The LDB is for Junior Branch members in grades 6-8 who are interested in joining the JB Board but not quite ready to take the leap. Participation in LDB fosters leadership growth. The LDB meets monthly and assists the JB Board by planning activities.
National Camp is a week-long program for youth aged 11–17, that brings together over 40 participants from across Canada. The camp is organized by the CISV Canada's Junior Branch in collaboration with the hosting chapter. It is hosted by a different chapter each year.
You’ll dive into engaging simulations, discussions, and creative activities, all while exploring new ideas and perspectives throughout the week.
