Jeff's email:
A quick update: We
hope to
announce some of the Peace Bus Leaders with in the next few days.
We
are still looking for a 22+ year old female leader (preferably) for the
August (East to West) trip. I encourage potential leaders who have
missed the deadline to still contact me as we are happy to have back up
leaders ready to parachute in if needed.
On November 30th
CISV Victoria
applied to Heritage Canada for $45,000 grant funding from the
"Youth
Take Charge Program".
http://www.pch.gc.ca/eng/1273673283815/1273511621149
. On January 4th,
at the request of Heritage Canada we resubmitted our application with
"CISV Canada" as the
applicant. The two key documents of our application are attached
below for your review.
We believe we can
increase our
chance of success if each Chapter Chair asks your Member(s) of
Parliament to send a letter of support for the CISV "C2C" National
Peace Bus to the address in the attached letter. Please make this
request ASAP.
Please feel free to
modify CISV
Victoria's attached email which we will send to our three Members of
Parliament. Two paragraphs with "XXX" are chapter specific and need
changing. Please copy me on your request to your Member of
Parliament!
Thanks for you help with
this matter. Jeffrey |
Happy New Year! Please share
this PeaceBus Buzz # 3 with your chapter.
The Peace Bus Project is moving forward....with some important
milestones passing by or fast approaching. Remember your
Chapter's delegate applications (located at
www.cisv.ca/peacebus) are due to me by Feb 1....so you should
obviously receive them and make your selection before that date.
Remember if more than two delegates applied, let me know the names and
phone numbers of your alternates in the event some chapters do not fill
their quota.
1) Leader / Driver Update
To date, we have received applications from two qualified, experienced,
mature "leader drivers" and hope to have these two "leader drivers" on
board before Feb 1 (delegate deadline). We are still recruiting two
additional leaders (age 22+) and at a later date may consider leaders
that do not have a class 4 license. See
www.cisv.ca/peacebus for leader applications.
2) The Peace Bus will be a "Carbon Neutral" Project
As recommended by a JB member.... the Peace Bus delegates will off set
both the 14 ton "carbon footprint" created by flying to and from
Victoria / Halifax as well as the 4 tons "carbon foot print" created by
driving the Peace Bus across Canada by spending a day "tree
planting" 400-800 trees (or purchasing 18 tons of carbon offset
credits). Through this initiative, Peace Bus Delegates will be
encouraged to promote sustainability, and learn about carbon foot
prints, and the impact of Jet Engine "Radiative Forcing" on our
environment. Visit www.carbonfund.org/calculators#
and www.evergreen.ca for more information.
3) The CISV Mini Mini Camp Experience
One reoccurring volunteer project open to the Peace Bus Team is to
produce a 3-4 hour CISV experience, "a mini mini camp" -"The CISV
Experience" which they would present as a work shop or performance to
11-13 year olds at YMCA, Boys and Girls Club, and City run Day Camps in
the 12 CISV Chapter Cities. A carefully orchestrated series of
activities, games, simulations & story telling would explore the
themes of Bullying, Racism, Tolerance, Hunger, Global Planet (i.e.
explore the 4 CISV content areas: Diversity, Human Rights, Conflict and
Resolution, Sustainable Development). This initiative primarily
support Local Chapter Development (recruiting new members) but
also advances peace education and will teach team building and
leadership skills to the delegates as they repeatedly lead a series of
CISV themed activities.
4) CISV C2C Peace Bus Facebook Group
Have you invited your JB members (and parents) to join the CISV C2C
Peace Bus Facebook Group? The group is 164 members strong...but I
am not sure if you are a member? Lots of information and content
here? We are searching for a Social Media coordinator? Do
you know somebody?
Any questions or want to volunteer? Feel free to contact me
